Expressive painting: this on-going zoom group is all about inquiry and exploration. The focus of this way of painting is to reveal information to the painter, through playful inquiry. Paint is the magic that brings it all into form, painting from the inside out. more info in events

Each of us is a DOORWAY for direct sensing, deep inquiry, and self-reflection.

NEW! Contemplative art practices

General idea: Contemplation with art and nature expands non-linear sensing, restores emotional and physical well-being, and shifts human consciousness, allowing for deep inquiry, interconnection with others, personal healing and connection with the numinous.

The altered state of mind and body that arises from engaging in contemplative practices allows the contemplator to utilize non-linear creative pathways, in response to or inspired by the individual’s meditation experience. Many creative processes can be combined with contemplation, or used in response to contemplation experiences. For example: 2D visual art, sculpture, installation, performance, writing, dance, music. more info in events

Art As Spiritual Practice

Our first group practiced and studied together for 10 months in 2024, on zoom. The gatherings were diverse and interesting in terms of content: we meditated and experimented with various contemplative interactive experiences, did creative practice together following the meditation, and shared afterwards.

PAINTINGS explore stories of the cosmos

These acrylic paintings are explorations and conversations with the world. Lindsey experiences: a single blossom, an alternate dimension, a prayer for the earth, or a way to heal… Acrylic paint on unprimed canvas, applied with unconventional tools: this is her magic.

Margaret asks, “Why do this work?” And the answer is: “To shift consciousness and awareness, to live a more fully informed life, to heal, to pray, to inquire, to know.” She believes art is an action, rather than an object. Art is ancient technology for communing with the cosmos.

This type of artmaking is a hands-on approach to direct sensing, internal observation, deep inquiry, and self-reflection. It’s a non-linear, non-verbal process, and you can’t do it wrong.

“Conscious art practice? It’s wellness work.”

Margaret has mentored and taught transformative art processes for decades, and is passionate about that work. She guides expressive art and healing experiences in various settings, including zoom. Many of her classes and meditation practices are adapted or inspired by the graduate seminars she taught in the Arts & Consciousness program at J.F.K. University, in Berkeley, CA.

Her approach to creativity and consciousness begins with this belief: engaging with multiple aspects of the self while learning and healing allows transfor-mation of consciousness to occur. When people actively create, sourcing themselves holistically, they are essentially engaging in creative cross-training. Quantum change occurs when the entire being is involved: when the somatic, emotional, cognitive and meditative aspects of self are all engaged.

Margaret lives and paints in the mountains outside of Nevada City, CA, and shows her acrylic paintings in galleries, community spaces and online.

“For people like me who don’t look at themselves as “arty,” who have their career in the corporate world, Margaret helps you develop the sides that you need to develop. She engages both the intellectual and the emotional sides of you.”
