EXPRESSIVE PAINTING: painting from the inside out.

  • On-line Zoom everywhere (map)

Expressive painting is all about inquiry and exploration: a real-time ZOOM group. The focus of process painting is to reveal information to the painter, who then experiments and plays creatively with what shows up and is felt. This zoom group is appropriate for painters of all levels and abilities, as long as they have some painting experience, and already own their own paints. media that will work for this class: water soluble paints such as acrylic paints, acrylic inks, gouache, or watercolors. (Poster paints and Oil paints are probably not the best for this process, but you can try anything you think might work.)

This course features in-class guidance for short real-time expressive painting experiences, as well as in-class check-ins, painting technique demos, and guided meditations. Students are offered prompts for working further at home, and encouraged to put in several hours a week in their home studios painting.

This class is on-going, and re-newable in increments.

winter session (6 classes) 1/20, 2/13, 27, 3/12, 26, 4/9,

spring session (5 classes) 4/23, 5/7, 21, 6/4, 18

This process is great for people with some painting experience, or with process art experience. You need not be adept at painting with acrylics or other water-soluble painting media, just willing to investigate yourself and your world through the medium of paint—liquid color. You will need to have the basic materials necessary to paint with acrylics or whatever media you choose, though we work with all sorts of other media as well. You cannot do expressive painting wrong: by definition, it is not critiqued or judged.

winter session: TUITION for 6 1.5-hour classes is $180. dates scheduled: tuesdays, January 30, feb. 13, feb. 26 (a monday) , mar. 12, 26, April 9.
